Wellness in the Home

Being an Interior Designer who lives with Chronic Illness, I tend to attract clients with multiple chemical sensitivities and other ailments which really makes it a necessity to keep the home as pure as possible.  Back when I first started designing “green” it was more about renewable resources and and energy efficiency. Thankfully now and due to more awareness and need, wellness in the home is the new buzzword in Real Estate.  There has been an unfortunate trend in sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy diets, stress, social isolation and loneliness, pollution and nature deprivation. Even the so-called “healthy person” is need:of a home and wellness revamp.  Our home really is an extension of our body and our body is really an extension of our home. What we put in our body can heal us or deplete us and the same is true with our environment. The air we breathe in our homes is crucial.   According to the American Lung Association’s “State of the Air” report, 133.9 million Americans live in areas where air quality is poor; Shockingly, indoor air quality tends to be even  more contaminated from poor ventilation, which traps dust containing toxic chemicals and pollution from outside. Volatile Organic Compounds “VOC’s” are found in paints, furniture, fabric, glues and other building materials also contribute greatly.  Having a good air purifier (stay tuned for my top recommends) and well as air-filtering plants plus keeping the windows open for better circulation is essential. Luckily there are so many tips and resources you can implement for a healthy home such as organic sheets, a non-toxic, eco-friendly mattress, lead-free cookware, etc, etc.,  Want to learn more?
