What a year it’s been so far. We are elated to announce that we have assisted in the design of our first horse stable in Malibu! It has been such and educational and creative learning process. Our client’s hired a specialist for the stable itself but we got to design the doors, the interiors of the tack room, the feed room and the bathroom which equipped with a custom barn-inspired vanity, sliding barn door and a curb less showers door. Here are some “work-in-progress” images:
A really fun process was getting the proper red for the exterior. I did my research and often saw lots of barn with a really rusty, muddy finish that really didn’t appeal to the energy of Malibu. So after trying a myriad of reds, we went back to my first choice of Remington Red by Sherman Williams…It was ALMOST perfect but that visceral feeling that I get when I’m satisfied with a design STILL wasn’t there. After a little more research, I discovered that if one paints on aged grey wood, that the red can really deepen. Well since this is a new build well on its way that wasn’t going to happen, so we used a grey primer and it worked! There are hundreds of details like this that go on behind the scenes in the design process to make it successful. Success TRULY resides in the details.
